Attended: Young Investment Banker Weekend
Now: Studies Economics at Lancaster University
"I undertook the InvestIn programme during my GCSEs, since this time the program has helped shape my path so far. I went on to complete A levels in Maths, Economics and Politics allowing me to read Economics at the University of Lancaster. As part of my application to these courses of study I included my experience with InvestIn, referencing the activities undertaken and utilizing the careers advice provided in the sessions. The programme provided an explanation of the spring insight weeks available at some banks and gave me the tools needed to apply for these competitive opportunities and although I was unsuccessful I gained interview and application experience I hope to prove useful for my future applications.
Alongside my study I have been inspired to build my experience outside of my studies completing the JPMorgan virtual internship program and spending a few days alongside the financial sponsors team at ING, these experiences afforded me greater experience and further allowed me to network with industry professionals. Networking is so valuable in this industry, I have joined the Investment and Finance Society at Lancaster which has provided many opportunities in this area including their flagship forum event bringing in speakers from Investment Banking, Asset Management and Consulting.
This event along with others has allowed me to develop relationships which have helped me gain insight and experience as well as access to opportunities in the industry. I have worked as an equity analyst on the student led Ghosal Fund at the university researching stocks and preparing pitch decks including valuation models to present to the fund for consideration of investment. I am very glad to have undertaken the InvestIN programme, it has helped me significantly in my career journey so far and I am sure will continue to do so in the future."
The Alumni Project
We often get asked what our students do beyond InvestIN - whether they continue to pursue the same career, or pivot into a different field. In 2023 we conducted a survey of our alumni students to find out what they are doing now and whether InvestIN helped them in this journey.
80% of respondents said that our programmes helped them decide what career to pursue
78% of respondents referenced InvestIN in their university application
3/4 of respondents that referenced InvestIN received a place at their first choice university
2/3 of respondents said our programmes gave them the knowledge and skills they needed to succeed in their chosen career
