Are you an aspiring political leader? Join our 2025 international politics summer school in London, designed for students aged 15-18. 

Over the course of two weeks, students will get to step into the shoes of a politician working in London, through a range of immersive career simulations and exclusive professional site visits. Represent your country in a model UN, run your own election campaign from start to finish, and network with international political figures.

Students taking part in our summer experience will build connections and gain experience that will give them an advantage in the future career. Plus, they'll get to spend time on-campus at the prestigious University College London. This unique opportunity is perfect for any burgeoning politicians, and will help students stand out on university applications in the future.

Immersive Political Experiences:
  • Conduct your own election campaign: write your manifesto, make speeches and campaign for votes

Accommodation
You can choose either residential or non-residential. The accommodation is at UCL student halls in central London. We provide residential students with meals, guardianship and fun activities on evenings and weekends. Airport transfers are also available at checkout.

  • You can choose to attend our programmes as a day student if you live locally. Otherwise, our residential package will give you a great flavour of life in student halls of residence before you apply to university in the future.

Immersive Experiences Week 1

The Model UN Experience

  • Breaking news! An international conflict has broken out. As a team, represent your country to ensure international stability, economic cooperation, trade supply lines and long standing alliances
  • Discover diplomacy: understand the role of negotiation on the international stage
  • Explore what determines a successful development intervention
  • Work in teams to urgently deal with an evolving situation and race against the clock to build an effective international development strategy
  • Receive expert feedback on your performance 
  • Take on the role as the UN Security Council to help solve an international conflict 
  • Learn about the UN’s famed cluster approach and see how nations work together in times of crisis

Becoming an Elected Official

In teams, design and run your own election campaign. See if you can build a manifesto, create a dazzling speech and win over voters!                                                                                                                                             

  • Build a manifesto for your campaign               
  • Address key issues relevant to your nation or constituents
  • Examine the many forms of political strategy and evaluate the best ways to gain an advantage
  • Manage your campaign and hone your approach to achieve electoral success
  • Discover the inside tips and tricks for navigating political speeches
  • Cultivate your power of persuasion and improve the clarity of your message as you perfect your pitch and delivery 
  • Work in your teams to canvass for deciding votes

This Summer Experience is for students aged 15-18 and you do not require any prior knowledge to attend.

The start date is the 28th July 2025.  You can choose to attend for either ‘First Week Only’, ‘Two Weeks’ or our ‘Two Week Premium’ package. You can also choose residential or non-residential. Pricing and details are set out below.

  • The programme is based at UCL and the surrounding University of London campus. Certain days take place in other key industry locations in London.

Accommodation location:

  • Students live on university campus in central London and are allocated to halls of residence used by University of London students, including those from UCL and LSE. We typically occupy a range of halls, including Garden Halls, College Hall, International Hall and Frances Gardner House.  

    All rooms are single, en-suite.

When is the deadline for registering for an experience?
Places on our programmes are allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis so we will close registration as soon as we reach capacity, because of this we would always recommend booking as soon as possible to ensure you do not miss the opportunity to attend.
Do I get a certificate?
All students are invited to complete a post-programme online assessment and upon completion, they will receive a digital, personalised certificate. Students attending 2-week programmes will also receive a physical certificate and an industry reference letter.
Who are your safeguarding team?
On each Summer Experience, we have safeguarding team members on-site 24/7 to promote the safeguarding and pastoral welfare of our students. Our team are security-vetted (enhanced DBS-checked) professionals who work in education full time and our team is made up of Academic Professionals / LSA, Safeguarding Officers, Nursing Professionals, and Mental Health Practitioners. Students will therefore always be able to easily contact a guardian, should they need any support.
Do you offer payment plans?
You can secure your place online with a non-refundable £950 deposit and pay the remainder at a later date. Please contact info@investin.org if you would like to discuss alternative payment plans.
Will there be any opportunities for rest days?
Programme hours take place Monday-Friday, with a break over the weekend. If you select the 2-Week Premium option, the weekend will feature exclusive professional development opportunities outlined in the timetable.
What skills make a good politician?
Good politicians will need: - Legal knowledge: Includes court procedures, government regulations and more - Social skills and communication skills: You'll need to be socially astute with members of the public and other politicians - Networking skills: Connections are essential in politics, so if you have a strong network you're more likely to succeed - Problem-solving skills: Problems and challenges will arise regularly, so you need to know how to react - Influence and rhetorical skills: The ability to put together a convincing argument is essential - Resilience and dynamism: In a career that's likely to involve setbacks and challenges, your ability to react to change and stay determined will serve you well
How do I get experience in international relations?
Intergovernmental organisations (IGOs) often offer volunteering opportunities, internships and traineeships for those interested in a career in the field. Charities and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) also offer volunteering or paid or experience opportunities. Our summer programme offers a unique opportunity for students to get work experience in international politics before they'll be applying for volunteering roles.
How do you start a career in international relations?
- Get a Masters degree in international relations: You'll need a graduate degree to get into international affairs. A masters in international relations will help you develop skills in a variety of disciplines that'll support you in a future role - Research the field: Do plenty of reading around so you understand how a career will look in each of the three sectors: public, private, and non-profit. Understanding this will be vital when applying and interviewing for roles - Look for internships: Experience working in international relations will support your professional development, so look out for opportunities at IGOs, NGOs, and more. The UN offer a Young Professionals Programme for those that have completed a relevant degree and are looking to begin a career as an international civil servant - Build international experience: International experience and cross-cultural awareness are vital, so look out for opportunities to develop these. It'll also help to learn a foreign language - Network: Use sites like Idealist.org and Devex to find events with like-minded people and build out a professional network
What jobs can you get with an international relations degree?
Those completing an international relations degree may go into roles like: - Political consultants - Intelligence specialists - Interpreters - Translators - Economic analysts - International policy analysts - International lawyers - Diplomatic agents - Public affairs consultants - Government social research officers - International aid/development workers
