Overview

The Young Forensic Scientist Weekend gives students aged 15-18 a chance to test-drive life as a forensic scientist. Learn from top professionals as they guide you through a series of interactive activities: navigate a crime scene, identify fingerprints and conduct DNA analysis. You will also get expert advice on how to become a successful forensic scientist, with guidance on university choices, extra-curricular activities, work experience and more.

You can attend either in-person in London or live online. Register now to gain an edge over other aspiring forensic scientists, and a super-curricular experience to add to your university application.

An Interactive Masterclass:
  • Top forensic scientists will coach you through a range of interactive activities, including:
  • Capture evidence: photograph and sketch evidence at a simulated crime scene 
  • Perform on-scene tests, finger-mark powdering and presumptive blood testing
  • Learn the principles of fingerprint identification and race to match fingerprints to a potential crime suspect

  • All hands on deck: witness a live demonstration of a crime scene strategy 
  • Camera-ready: photograph evidence to capture the initial state of the scene 
  • Sketch the scene with dimensions to keep on record
  • Learn how to label and package evidence into the correct containers for transport
  • Roll up your sleeves: perform on-scene tests, finger-mark powdering and presumptive blood testing

  • Learn the principles of fingerprint identification and the different pattern types
  • Race against the clock to match the correct fingerprints to a potential crime suspect

  • Learn about the everyday duties performed in a forensic science laboratory
  • Meet the laboratory team and explore their roles
  • Witness the performance of routine forensic procedures

This programme is for students aged 15-18. No prior knowledge or experience is required. The programme involves a mixture of interactive simulations, exercises and Q&A sessions. You can choose to attend the programme either in-person in London or ‘Live Online’; the content is the same for both.

Programme Fee:

In-Person: £195/student for full day

'Live Online’: £165/student for full day
