The Young Filmmaker Programme takes students aged 15-18 on an immersive exploration through the world of Filmmaking. You will take part in a series of interactive simulations, seminars and Q&A sessions with Directors, Producers, Editors, Scriptwriters, Technicians and more.

The programme includes an opportunity for you to produce and edit a movie trailer, experience a film set, and film motion video.

The programme takes place over two days – Saturday dedicated to Production and Sunday to Post-Production. You can choose to attend either one or both days.

HIGHLIGHTS

A 360-Degree Experience of Filmmaking:

  • Expert Filmmakers will coach you through live, interactive simulations, including:

  • The live filming of a script where you help a director choose the genre, props, set, lighting and more

  • Producing your own movie trailer by editing footage, selecting the sound, transitions, speed, angles and more

  • Planning, budgeting and pitching a film: advice from top Producers  
  • Practising videography by filming motion video

Career coaching for Young Filmmakers:

  • You will be trained on how to fulfil your career ambitions in Filmmaking

            10.30am The World of Filmmaking - The star players: directors, producers, editors, technicians, scriptwriters and more
            - The qualities of a powerful filmmaker
            11.00am Lights, Camera, Action - Experience a live, interactive film set on stage:
            - Production crew film the script live and coach you on how to do it yourself
            - Comprehensive training on how to make the crucial artistic decisions: the set, the genre, actors, props, lighting and more
            - Watch a film scene being produced off the back of your decisions
            1.00pm Lunch Break
            2.00pm And…Cut! - Experience the world of film production through an afternoon of interactive activities that explore different roles on-set:
            - Production: planning, budgeting and pitching a successful film project
            - Videography: learn and experience how to film motion video
            - Script-writing: training on how to turn your story into a movie
            4.00pm The Film Screening - Live screening of the films you’ve made throughout the day, with constructive feedback from Filmmakers
            4.30pm Panel Q&A - Live Q&A with leading Filmmakers with backgrounds in directing, producing, scriptwriting and more

            Programme Timetable Sunday: Final Cut (Post-Production Day)
            10.30am The World of Post-Production - Editing, cutting, colouring, sound and more
            - Bringing a genre to life through editing techniques
            11.00am The Art of Film Editing - An entire morning of interactive exercises to coach you through the key elements of editing:
            - Selecting the most essential footage
            - Alternating shots, angles and speed
            - The art of transitions and colouring
            - The power of sound in film: ‘wild track’, ‘room tone’, ‘ambience’, J-cuts and L-cuts
            - Discover 'Foley Artistry'
            1.00pm Lunch Break
            2.00pm You Become the Film Editor - Work in a team of editors to create a trailer for a blockbuster movie in the next 2 hours
            - Take the raw footage and turn it into a film trailer that will make the movie a box office success
            - Select the footage, sound, transitions, speed, angles and more
            - Professional Filmmakers on-hand to guide you
            4.00pm The Film Screening - Live screening of the films you’ve made throughout the day, with constructive feedback from film industry experts
            4.30pm Career Coaching: How to become a top Filmmaker - Coaching on the path to becoming a top Filmmaker, starting now
            - Study options, work experience and more
            - Creating your own content now, building your portfolio and getting exposure

            WHO CAN ATTEND?

            This programme is for students aged 15-18 who have the passion and ambition to both learn about this career, and start boosting their UCAS/college applications & CVs. If you are a student who is slightly older or younger than our guidelines, then please do get in touch with us to discuss your specific situation.


            There is no application process, and you can secure your place simply by clicking “Register Now”. We operate on a first-come first-served basis and programme places are limited; we are usually full a couple of months in advance of the programme date. No prior knowledge or experience is required to join this programme as we build your knowledge from the basics up to more advanced concepts.
