The Young Publisher Programme gives students aged 15-18 an immersive experience of working in a Publishing House. You will take part in a series of interactive simulations, seminars, case studies and Q&A sessions with a team of editors, designers, publicists and sales representatives from some of the top publishing houses in the industry.

On the programme, you will gain knowledge and experience of the editorial process, including negotiating manuscripts and building authentic relationships with authors.

You will also learn the business of publishing, including how to publicise and generate hype in a competitive race to get your book from the first draft to bestseller.

The programme takes place over 2 days – Saturday dedicated to the editorial process and Sunday to generating publicity. You can choose to attend either one or both days.

Attendance will give you a competitive edge in the race for the best universities and jobs in Publishing and a ‘super-curricular’ experience to add to your CV and UCAS application.

    The programme involves a mixture of interactive simulations, exercises and Q&A sessions. A full timetable can be found below.

      11.45am You Become the Editor - You will now be assigned the role of editor for a prospective publishing house. Throughout the rest of the day you will experience the entire end-to-end editorial process: from selecting the correct manuscript for your publishing house, to making stylistic choices for production and then feeding back the final product to the author

      Day Two: Publicising a Bestseller
      11.00am The World of Publishing - The life of a book: the key stages

      11.30am Enter the Publishing House - You will now step into an ‘acquisitions meeting’ where you will see your book manuscript for the first time. Throughout the rest of the day you will be coached on marketing, publicity, and sales to ensure your book goes from first draft to bestseller

      - Representing your author
      - Identify the book’s target audience and key selling platforms
      - Gain exposure with a strategic marketing & publicity campaign

      You can attend this programme via our state-of-the-art, interactive online platform from anywhere in the world. All the content will be delivered in a live, interactive manner and you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions of our experienced professionals. All you need is an internet connection; we will send you full details of how to access the programme well in advance.


      This programme is for students aged 15-18 who have the passion and ambition to both learn about this career, and start boosting their UCAS/college applications & CVs. If you are a student who is slightly older or younger than our guidelines, then please do get in touch with us to discuss your specific situation.

      There is no application process, and you can secure your place simply by clicking “Register Now”. We operate on a first-come first-served basis and programme places are limited; we are usually full a couple of months in advance of the programme date. No prior knowledge or experience is required to join this programme as we build your knowledge from the basics up to more advanced concepts.
