The Young Marketing & PR Programme gives students aged 15-18 an immersive experience of the world of Marketing and Public Relations (PR). You will take part in a series of interactive simulations, seminars and Q&A sessions with Marketing and PR experts who work for multinational corporations and high-profile politicians.

The programme includes an opportunity for you to: build and deliver an entire Marketing strategy for an exciting young start-up; conduct a live consumer focus group to research your target audience; launch a promotional PR campaign for an innovative brand; rescue your client from a rapidly-escalating PR disaster.

The programme takes place over two days – Saturday dedicated to Marketing and Sunday to PR. You can choose to attend either one or both days.

                Programme Format:

                The programme takes place at UCL, with group activities in break-out areas and seminar aspects in a lecture hall. The programme involves a mixture of interactive simulations, exercises and Q&A sessions. A full timetable can be found below.

                  10.50am You Become the Marketing Manager - You will now be assigned the role of prospective Marketing Manager for a start-up. Throughout the rest of the day you will be coached on how to devise the ultimate 360-degree marketing strategy by industry experts . Using what you learn, you and your team will devise a holistic marketing strategy for the start-up. Compete against other teams in a dynamic, vibrant atmosphere that will immerse you in the real world of Marketing
                  11.00am Building a Brand - Know your audience: breaking into the minds of your consumers
                  - The Psychology of Marketing: Product, place, price, promotion, people, positioning and packaging
                  - Game-changing logos and slogans
                  - The power of advertising: TV, radio, print and experiential advertising

                  3.00pm Create Your Marketing Pitch - Design your 360-degree marketing pitch for the start-up
                  - Bring together what you've learnt from your interviews with the founders and consumers, and the coaching sessions

                  10.30am The World of PR - Building a strong public image for clients
                  - Influencing opinions and behaviours
                  - The psychology of 'spin'
                  - Courting the media
                  10.50am You Become the PR Consultant - You will now be assigned the role of PR Consultant for a exciting new start-up. Throughout the rest of the day you will be coached on how to handle the 2 key aspects of PR: promotion and crisis management. The start-up requires both skills from you: learn how to do it and then show that you can do it!
                  11.00am PR and Promotion - Planning a PR strategy to build brand momentum
                  - Convincing the press to give you exposure
                  - Writing a powerful press release
                  - Lobbying politicians
                  - Choosing a celebrity endorser and media spokesperson
                  - Creating a new and original publicity campaign
                  12.00pm Promote Your Client - Devise a promotion strategy for your client
                  - Convince the world that your client is changing the game in their industry
                  - Pitch your strategy to PR experts

                  2.00pm PR and Crisis Management - Responding to a PR crisis
                  - Preparing an emergency strategy
                  - Using your friends in the media to limit the damage
                  - Reversing a social media backlash
                  - Preparing for television interviews
                  3.00pm Manage Your Client's PR Crisis - Breaking news! Your client is involved in a rapidly-escalating crisis which could end their business
                  - Avoid a PR nightmare by using your crisis management skills
                  - Influence the media, reverse the Twitter meltdown, draft a statement to the press
                  - Prepare your client for a live TV interview and watch it happen

                  This programme is for students aged 15-18 who have the passion and ambition to both learn about this career, and start boosting their UCAS/college applications & CVs. If you are a student who is slightly older or younger than our guidelines, then please do get in touch with us to discuss your specific situation.


                  There is no application process, and you can secure your place simply by clicking “Register Now”. We operate on a first-come first-served basis and programme places are limited; we are usually full a couple of months in advance of the programme date. No prior knowledge or experience is required to join this programme as we build your knowledge from the basics up to more advanced concepts.
