InvestIN’s Media Programme Makes Successful Debut

Contents

This month saw the launch of InvestIN’s brand-new Media Manager Programme. As the latest addition to InvestIN’s popular immersive career programmes, the Young Media Weekend and Summer Experience Programmes aim to inspire the next generation of media professionals.

From content creation to investigative journalism, media is an exciting and evolving industry, offering diverse career pathways. Like many industries, the advancement of technology has created new opportunities and continues to shape the future of media, making it an exciting sector for students to explore.

So, what did students experience during the inaugural Young Media Manager Weekend Programme?

World of Media in a Day

The day started with an introduction to the media landscape and the different career paths available to students before diving into the history of media. The first session, led by Ed Gove, Senior Producer at Channel 4 News, raised the question ‘Is print media dead?’.

With an extensive brief, students worked together with creative freedom to come up with innovative ideas and strategies to boost engagement, readership and revenue to save a struggling local newspaper.

Ed shared his industry experience and advice for students throughout the morning. He said: “Media is an exciting industry that is changing so massively that there is a real opportunity for anyone starting out to make an impact.

“It’s never been easier to pick up your phone and film a video or start a blog. The skills that young people have now are so advanced in terms of the ability to create amazing content that there is an opportunity for them to see an industry revolutionised.”

From Print Media to Cinematography

In the afternoon, the programme seamlessly transitioned from journalism to film and media. Students analysed a series of shots from mainstream films, guided by Hunter Clint, Digital Marketing Executive and Content Creator, who provided expert insight into the main aspects of cinematography, including lighting, framing and sequencing.

Students then split into groups to attempt the three-shot challenge, a popular activity used by leading brands in the media industry. This allowed students to develop practical skills and showcase their creativity from ideation to editing.

The students created a range of different short stories during the hands-on content creation workshop. One of the students, Dylan, shared that it was his favourite part of the day. He said: “I enjoyed the cinematography session; it was fun and allowed us to see how difficult it is to inform your audience through video.”

Fellow student, Val, agreed with Dylan. She said: “You can appreciate how much effort and time go into filming. We had an hour, and we only left ourselves five minutes to edit. So, you really appreciate the skill and how many elements there are.”

Building Your Personal Brand

The final session of the day was a career-coaching masterclass led by Rahmon Agbaje, Co-Founder of the award-winning music creative agency, Loud Parade. Rahmon shared his entrepreneurial experience and gave students advice about building a professional personal brand that stands out.

Students learnt how to grow their professional network and create authentic engagement while showing their value. Rahmon stressed the importance of consistency, clarity and credibility during an immersive activity where students curated a sustainable fashion brand and shared ideas about marketing it to a new audience.

Next Stop: Summer 2026

After the successful launch of the Young Media Manager Programme, it’s time to look to the summer, where students will have the opportunity to spend multiple weeks exploring the world of media and gaining in-demand skills to help them break into the industry.

Tinu Somoye, Programme Manager, said: “It was great to see how engaged the students were throughout the day as they were expertly taken on a journey through the media industry by our professionals, Ed, Hunter and Rahmon.

“We have another Weekend Programme in March before the launch of the Young Media Manager Summer Experience in July 2026, and we can’t wait to meet more aspiring media professionals. Next summer promises to be full of immersive experiences and industry insights, helping students prepare for a successful career in media.”

So, join us next summer and test-drive your dream career in media alongside like-minded students from around the world!
