The Young Political Leader Summer Internship Live Online gives students aged 15-18 a 360-degree summer work experience in International Politics, from the comfort of their own home. Over the course of 4 days, you will work with key figures from the world of International Politics - including representatives of the UN, the Foreign Office and high-profile NGOs - ‘Live Online’ via our interactive platform.

Throughout the Internship, you will follow a rapidly-escalating international conflict simulation which will culminate in you representing a country or NGO at a ‘Model UN’ Security Council meeting and then conduct peace talks. Our experts will coach you on the key aspects of diplomacy and conflict-resolution; your task will be to deliver the best possible outcome for your country by advising your country's leader, negotiating with other countries, working with high-profile NGOs, and representing your nation at the UN.

You will also have the opportunity to network with our International Politics experts and ask them all your burning questions.

      - International alliances, power blocs, and alignments
      11.30am International Conflict Breaks Out - A rapidly-escalating international conflict has broken out!
      - International stability, economic cooperation, trade supply lines, long-standing alliances and thousands of lives are at stake
      - You and your teammates will represent a country or NGO for the next three days. Your task is to deliver the best possible outcome for your country/NGO in this ongoing crisis
      12.00pm National Security - Develop a plan to defend your national interests and security
      - Strategise your next moves: do you rely on allies, escalate tensions, or act as peacemaker?
      - Identify where you stand among global power blocs
      1.00pm Lunch Break
      1.30pm Bilateral Diplomacy - Use your political influence to negotiate with other countries
      - Convince national governments to support your NGO’s priorities
      - Balance national security vs. international peace
      - Interact with foreign affairs representatives and other players on the world stage
      - Build a case for action, without damaging your national interests
      2.45pm UN General Assembly: Make Your Case - Work as an advisor to your Foreign Affairs Minister/NGO Chief Exec
      - Prepare and present a speech outlining your country's/NGO's planned course of action
      - Put your persuasion and communication skills to the test in a speech at a Model UN General Assembly

      Day 2: Crisis Response – International Development & Bilateral Aid
      11.00am The World of International Development - Follow yesterday’s conflict scenario as it continues to develop, this time from the perspective of International Development organisations
      - Discover career options in International Development
      - Debate the core issues
      - Consider the role of bilateral aid, NGOs and charities in responding to conflicts
      - Explore what makes a successful development intervention
      11.30am Crisis Response: Bilateral Aid - As the conflict escalates, you must consider not only your national priorities, but the impact on the global community. As a country team, you must develop your international development strategy
      - How has this crisis affected your spending priorities? How can your aid budget have the greatest impact in helping those affected? Is there any tension with your country’s political goals
      - Explore ethical questions in International Development
      - Balance your priorities and present your national aid budget

      2.00pm Career Coaching - How to break into careers in international politics
      - Coaching on choosing the right university, A-levels and degree subject, and how to get the right work experience
      - Q&A panel and networking session with the political professionals you've met on the Internship

      Day 3: Conflict Resolution – United Nations Security Council
      11.00am Crisis Resolution: Negotiation Tactics - How do international actors resolve dangerous conflicts?
      - Factors that promote or impede peace
      - Seeking peace: the techniques used when bringing an end to international suffering
      - Tactics used by diplomats use to defuse tensions and build constructive relationships
      - Role-play exercises on diplomatic negotiation in conflict scenarios

      1.30pm UN Security Council Session: Peace Agreement - Conflict has reached breaking point and the UN must act!
      - Represent members of the UN Security Council and work towards a collective resolution to the crisis
      - Protect your national interests on the international stage
      - NGOs transform into UN Agencies, presenting evidence and compelling arguments as to how peace can be achieved
      - Produce a plan for action: can the UNSC collectively pursue peace?
      - Defuse tensions, put your international alliances to the test, and pursue cooperation
      - Resolve the conflict scenario and vote on your negotiated resolution
      4.00pm Wrap-up and Reflection - Consolidate learning from the past three days
      - Evaluate the strategies used to resolve the international crisis

      You can attend this programme via our state-of-the-art, interactive online platform from anywhere in the world. All the content will be delivered in a live, interactive manner and you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions of our experienced professionals.
