Over the course of 2 weeks, students aged 15-18 will get to step into the shoes of a lawyer working in London, through a range of immersive career simulations and exclusive professional site visits. Argue a human rights case in London's Supreme Court, work with corporate lawyers in a City of London skyscraper, and more.

Students enrolled in our summer programme will build contacts in the legal field that’ll be helpful for them in the future, whilst gaining knowledge and experience in their dream role. They’ll also get to spend time at University College London, a globally renowned institution. Accommodation
You can choose either residential or non-residential. The accommodation is at UCL student halls in central London. We provide residential students with meals, guardianship and fun activities on evenings and weekends. Airport transfers are also available at checkout.

Immersive Experiences Week 1

The Murder Trial

Over the course of two days, you will enter the world of criminal law by following a simulated trial from the moment of arrest through to verdict
You will represent either prosecution or defence and act as a lawyer in the proceedings
Review initial police disclosures, discuss interview strategy, and represent the police or the defendants during the live police interview
Act out an application for bail
Make closing and opening court speeches
Cross-examine witnesses
Feedback from real criminal lawyers

Corporate Law

Step into the shoes of a corporate lawyer on the top floor of a London skyscraper
Learn from top corporate lawyers and understand the skills you need
Corporate law simulation: enter a legal negotiation on behalf of an international company wanting to acquire another
Receive live feedback from expert corporate lawyers on your negotiation approach

Family Law

Analyse a high-profile divorce case and decide the correct legal advice
Serve as the family lawyer representing the clients at trial

Human Rights: Enter Amnesty International & The Supreme Court

Over the course of two days, you will immerse yourself in human rights law by engaging with essential human rights, advocacy coaching, and culminating in advocating for your client in a ground-breaking human rights case.

Meet professionals in a world-renowned NGO, fighting to protect human rights around the world
Changing lives: discover the ways in which law can be used to address and tackle societal issues and concerns
Coaching by expert barristers on how to become a powerful public speaker
Learn key advocacy techniques: refining arguments, using body language, selecting particular words for emphasis, and perfecting and varying your intonation
Analyse a high-profile human rights case and prepare to advocate for your client
Deliver your legal submissions in the Supreme Court, with a barrister acting as a judge

Public Law

Meet public law experts and learn about the ways in which law touches all areas of life

There are 3 start dates you can select from for 2024: 8th July; OR 29th July; OR 19th August.
You can choose to attend for either ‘First Week Only’, ‘Two Weeks’ or our ‘Two Week Premium’ package. You can also choose residential or non-residential. Pricing and details are set out below.

Students who choose accommodation will reside in University of London halls of residence. We occupy 3 different halls close-by to each other (listed below). The vast majority of students will be placed in Garden Halls

Places on our programmes are allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis so we will close registration as soon as we reach capacity, because of this we would always recommend booking as soon as possible to ensure you do not miss the opportunity to attend.

Upon completion of the programme you will receive a bespoke certificate to include in all of your future applications. This will help you stand out from the crowd and show your passion for your chosen career. Letters of attendance are also available upon request at info@investin.org.

On each Summer Experience, we have safeguarding team members on-site 24/7 to promote the safeguarding and pastoral welfare of our students. Our team are security-vetted (enhanced DBS-checked) professionals who work in education full time and our team is made up of Academic Professionals / LSA, Safeguarding Officers, Nursing Professionals, and Mental Health Practitioners. Students will therefore always be able to easily contact a guardian, should they need any support.

You can choose to add our accommodation package to your booking where you will be allocated to the University of London's Garden Halls, College Hall, or International Hall. Here, you will enjoy your own private room, 3 meals a day, and 24/7 guardianship. There are also lots of communal areas such as a games room and cinema room where you will be able to socialise with other students. Our safeguarding team will also put on evening activities such as trivia night, games night, and sports evenings. You will be able to arrive at the accommodation the day before the programme starts and checkout will be the day after the programme comes to an end.

Yes, payment plans are available. Click on 'Register Now', and you will see the option to either pay in full or reserve your place with a £950 non-refundable deposit. Once your deposit is paid, you will receive another email detailing the information for your second instalment. Programme hours take place Monday-Friday, with a break over the weekend. If you select the 2-Week Premium option, the weekend will feature exclusive professional development opportunities outlined in the timetable.

There are several benefits of getting work experience in the legal field, including: - You'll build skills in key areas, such as research, writing, and communication - It'll enhance your CV, making you stand out to employers in the future - It emphasises your desire to work in the field, which will look good when applying for jobs - You'll be able to explore different areas of law and see which is best for you - It's the only way to get direct experience of legal work - You'll build a network of other interns and professionals

Those looking to become a lawyer through university will need to complete a qualifying law degree (LLB) before taking the Solicitors Qualifying Examination. Students studying an unrelated undergraduate subject can take a law conversion course and/or an SQE preparation course before taking their exams. After the SQE, students will need to complete 2 years of qualifying legal work experience (this may include a training contract). They'll then need to pass the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) character and suitability requirements. Those looking to become a lawyer without attending university can complete a Solicitor Apprenticeship. This six-year, Level 7 programme is primarily designed for A-level graduates, paralegals and chartered legal executives. Prospective barristers will need to complete at least three components of legal training: - The academic component (a law degree) - The vocational component (the Bar course) - The work-based learning component (a pupillage) Once all these components are complete, you can either apply for tenancy as a self-employed barrister in chambers or go into practice as an employed barrister.

Successful lawyers tend to have a particular set of skills, which include: - Teamwork: Regardless of your specialisation, you'll be working as part of a larger team, so the ability to work with others is essential - Independence: You'll also need to be able to work independently, whether researching, writing, or performing other common tasks - Problem-solving skills: Creative problem-solving will help you build arguments and explore new avenues when challenges arise - Communication skills: Both verbal and written communication skills are vital in a role where clarity is so important - The ability to work under pressure: You'll face regular deadlines and obstacles, so it's vital you can work in pressurised situations - Empathy: Being a good listener and having the ability to understand others will serve you in a legal career, especially when working with clients - Research skills: You'll have to research lots of information and analyse cases, regulations, and so on, so research skills are essential
