On the Young Journalist Programme, a group of journalists from some of the world’s most renowned media houses will immerse you in a series of interactive role plays, seminars, and Q&A sessions, to give you a 360-degree experience of journalism. You will also be coached on how to maximise your chances of becoming a top journalist, starting now.  You will leave the programme having gained a competitive advantage over other aspiring journalists, and a brilliant experience to include on your UCAS application.

Programme Outcomes and Highlights 

1. You will undertake the ultimate work experience in journalism, participating in activities including:

  • Writing your own news column
  • Planning your own investigative scoop
  • Recording your own news story
  • Using data to bring your words to life

You will be coached by our expert journalists through each of these tasks and be given live feedback...


2. You will be coached on how to become a top journalist:

  • An action plan of how to get to the top, starting now
  • Coaching by experts on A-level, university and degree choices; extra-curricular activities; work experience; and application techniques

3. You will have access to established journalists from some of the most renowned media houses in the world:

  • Q&A time with journalists who have worked at places such as The BBC, The Economist, The Daily Telegraph, CNN, ITV, Sky News, Private Eye and The Independent.
  • Unlimited lifetime access to our depth of expertise. Students can contact us for further advice at any time and the most-relevant journalist will respond to your questions.

How do I book my place?
Simply click “Register Now” on the right to begin the registration process.
Do I need to apply and be accepted in order to attend a programme?
There is no application in order to attend our programmes, as we feel that passion, ambition and a willingness to commit toward your future is enough. Our programmes, however, are extremely popular and are often full months in advance. We offer our places on a first-come first-served basis and places are highly limited.
Do I need to have prior knowledge?
No prior knowledge is required to attend our programmes, as we introduce each topic from a basic level of understanding.
What is the dress code for the programme/internship?
We ask that students wear professional clothing on our programmes as you will be meeting industry executives. Essentially, avoid wearing jeans, trainers or tracksuits. Suits, chinos and other smart casual wear are all acceptable.
How much do your one-day programmes cost?

Our one-day career experiences cost £135/student. This includes:

  • Entry to the programme
  • Access to our online assessment after the programme (pass and you receive a personalised certificate)
  • Lifetime access to our expertise; students can email us with career-related questions at any time and the most appropriate professional will provide their response. This can be an invaluable source of career coaching for life.
  • A guided tour of parts of the university campus which is available to all programme attendees

What time should I arrive?

Our one-day programmes generally start at 10.30am (11am for our Beyond Programmes). Registration is between 9.45-10.15am, to ensure you get there with plenty of time to network with other attendees before the programme begins. Once you have booked onto a programme, you will receive a confirmation email with programme-specific details about registration and programme timings.

Is lunch provided at your one-day programmes?

Lunch is not provided by InvestIN, as it is difficult to cater for the variety of dietary requirements amongst our students, However, there are many cafés and lunch spots near our venues; or you can of course bring a packed lunch.

Water will be provided for you throughout the day.

Can you bring food and drink to the event?

You are welcome to bring food and drink to the programme.

Do you let in latecomers?

The registration desk is open until noon, but If you are going to arrive after this, please email in advance so that we can arrange for someone to be on-hand to register you.

Can I bring a bag into this event?

There will be space to store any bags and luggage at the event, simply ask a member of staff when you register.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

You do not need to bring anything with you save for a pen, a notepad, and your enthusiasm! You will be provided with a booklet of materials on arrival, and throughout the programme you’ll be given the requisite equipment to participate in the simulations.

This programme is for students aged 15-18 who have the passion and ambition to both learn about this career, and start boosting their UCAS/college applications & CVs. If you are a student who is slightly older or younger than our guidelines, then please do get in touch with us to discuss your specific situation.

There is no application process, and you can secure your place simply by clicking “Register Now”. We operate on a first-come first-served basis and programme places are limited; we are usually full a couple of months in advance of the programme date. No prior knowledge or experience is required to join this programme as we build your knowledge from the basics up to more advanced concepts.
