The Young Doctor Autumn Internship gives students aged 15-18 a 360-degree work experience in Medicine, from the comfort of their own home.

You will experience the real-life work of a doctor, with opportunities to shadow a doctor on a simulated ward round and observe patient consultations taking place live in a London hospital. In addition, two whole days will be dedicated to medical school application coaching, with doctors training you on how to excel at every stage, including personal statements, applications and interviews.

You will also have the opportunity to network with our doctors and ask them all your burning questions, just as you would in-person.

            12.00pm Trauma and Resuscitation - Dealing with major incidents
            - Basic Life Support (BLS)
            - Live demonstration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

            2.00pm The Emergency Room - Live demonstration of an A&E scenario using the latest Virtual Reality technology
            - Investigate symptoms
            - Discuss diagnosis
            - Examine a patient's x-ray and ECG
            - Initiating treatment
            3.30pm Panel Discussion with Top Doctors - Ask questions to high-ranking doctors across various disciplines
            - Guidance on applications from those on the inside of medical school applications

            DAY 2: ENTER THE HOSPITAL
            11.00am The GP Surgery - Observe doctors examining real patients
            - Take medical histories of common conditions
            - Review pathology reports
            - Compare community healthcare with hospital Medicine
            12.30pm The Consultant - Participate in a consultation with a specialist
            - Take medical histories of more advanced conditions
            - Practice your communication skills with patients

            2.30pm The Ward Round - Care for patients with different medical and surgical conditions
            - Experience what doctors do on a daily ward round
            - Review patients and deal with unexpected problems
            - Practice explaining test results to patients
            - Interact with multiple healthcare professionals to receive an appreciation of the multidisciplinary teams in Medicine

            DAY 3: IMMERSIVE MEDICAL SIMULATIONS
            11.00am Diagnostic Escape Room - Race against the clock to work out the diagnosis
            - Initiate treatment and save the patient's life
            - Engage in a simulated case-based discussion with guidance from an experienced doctor
            12.30pm Patient Diagnosis - Step into the shoes of a doctor by reviewing patients' histories and making decisions
            - Interpret x-rays and blood test results to help you reach a diagnosis

            3.00pm Medical Ethics - Explore some of the most controversial questions in Medicine, which often come up in medical school interviews
            - Coaching on how to tackle ethics interview
            - Debate with your peers on a hot topic in medical ethics
            - Argue for or against and see who wins

            DAY 4: MEDICAL SCHOOL APPLICATION COACHING (PART I)
            11.00am Medical School Applications - Choosing the right medical school
            - Building an outstanding medical school application
            - Creating a 'winning' personal statement
            - Analyse and learn from model personal statements
            12.00pm UCAT & BMAT Workshop - Receive tips, tricks and advice from experts

            DAY 5: MEDICAL SCHOOL APPLICATION COACHING (PART II)
            11.00am Work Experience & Extra Curricular Activities - Receive personalised tips, tricks and advice on how to acquire relevant opportunities
            - How to successfully relate your personal interests to the values, attributes and behaviours of a good doctor
            12.30pm Personal Statement Clinic - Tips and tricks behind a medical personal statement

            *From the first day of your Internship, you will be asked to note down your reflections of what you experience. You will also be asked to write sections of your Personal Statement. During this unique day, you will go through multiple sessions led by current medical students and doctors. The coaching you receive during the day will enable you to create your own Development Plan – allowing you to come away from the Internship with a clear idea of your strengths and areas of improvement.

All the content will be delivered in a live, interactive manner and you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions of our experienced professionals.             The Internship is for students aged 15-18 who have the passion and ambition to both learn about this career and start boosting their university/college applications & CVs.             No prior knowledge or experience is required to join this programme as we build your knowledge from the basics up to more advanced concepts.
