Internship Overview

The Young International Development Expert Programme takes students aged 15-18 on an immersive exploration through the development world, from humanitarian relief work to sustainable development initiatives. The programme brings experts from NGOs, aid charities and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) to coach you through a series of interactive simulations, seminars, case studies and Q&A sessions.

The programme includes an opportunity to design and carry out a simulated humanitarian relief project in which you enter a crisis zone, design a relief strategy and complete the challenges set before you. You will also research and advocate environmental policies on an international stage.

The programme takes place over two days – Saturday dedicated to Human Development and Sunday to Environmental Development. You can choose to attend either one or both days.

There is also an optional third day: “Enhanced Career Coaching”, where recruitment experts will give you an experience of each stage of the process top firms use to recruit young international development experts and help you create a personalised development plan – analysing your strengths and weaknesses – to maximise your chances of becoming a successful candidate.

Attendance will give you a competitive edge in the race for the best universities and jobs in international development and a ‘super-curricular’ experience to add to your CV and UCAS application.
